Importing household goods when relocating to Singapore

Foreign citizens moving to Singapore can import their household goods duty-free. However, they must know that cars, liquor and tobacco are subject the goods and services tax (GST), the equivalent of the value added tax in Europe.  In order to import household goods duty-free in Singapore the following conditions must be respected:

  • - the foreign citizens owns the goods for at least three months,
  • - the shipment is done by air or sea,
  • - the goods are brought within the first six months from relocating to Singapore,
  • - the foreign citizen wants to become a Singapore citizen.

Foreign citizens must also submit with the Singapore Customs Authorities:

  • - a Personal Effects Exemption Declaration,
  • - a Declaration of Facts,
  • - a copy after their valid passport,
  • - the Singapore employment or residence visa,
  • - the landing or airway bill.

Accommodation when relocating in Singapore
