The Travel Agents Law in Singapore

The Travel Agents Act is the legal framework which provides for the requisites when applying for a travel agency license. First of all, not all activities in the tourism field require a travel agency license in Singapore. Travel agents and tour operators must apply for this special license if they offer the following services:

  • – they sell tickets to individuals who want to travel in or outside the country;
  • – they sell transportation tickets for travel purposes;
  • – they arrange accommodation for tourists;
  • – they organize tours in or outside Singapore;
  • – they resell any of the types of tickets mentioned above.

Requirements when applying for a travel agency license in Singapore

In order to obtain a travel agency license in Singapore, a local or foreign investor must comply with the following requirements:

  • – register any type of business form with ACRA;
  • – deposit a minimum share capital of 100,000 SGD;
  • – appoint a company manager who must be approved by the Singapore Tourism Board;
  • – create a website through which the services of the travel agency are offered and promoted;
  • – to have a separate e-mail address for customers;
  • – to have registered address in Singapore.

The applications for the travel agency license are filed with the Singapore Tourism Board. The license should be issued in approximately 2 weeks.

The Singapore travel agency license has a 2-year validity period and can be renewed. It should be noted that the expiry date of a travel agency license is the 31st of December, no matter the date it was obtained.
